Spring 2011 Notes
Hope everyone had a great winter. Spring is here and its time to get outside and smile!
A lot of big changes in the past few months. First of all we'd like to bid a fond farewell to our front desk admin, Peggy who has retired from the workforce. Enjoy retirement Peggy! We also welcome Donna to our admin team who is fast learning the ropes and becoming a familiar face in the reception area. Also We'd like to welcome back Dr. chu's ex-assistant Randi who after 2 years away for school is back at Southpointe Dental as a newly-minted registered dental hygienist. Congrats Randi!
In preparation for Randi, we have completed the construction of a new operatory which was desperately needed in our busy office. Patients have already commented on the convenience of the newly opened schedule time.
Dr. Chu's short retirement from the Ottawa Dental Society lasted all of 1 year as he has since volunteered to head the annual Society Children's Christmas Party as well as head the Society's website committee. He's also joined the executive of the Ottawa Pacers speedskating club where his son Ben is training and competing.
We are installing a new email and text message based confirmation service, which should prove to be a useful tool in confirming appointments, especially for our tech-saavy patients. For those who still prefer a phone call reminder, we will continue that as well.
Dr. Chu and his wife Misa has recently taken on the duty of Co-chairs for the Ottawa Dental Society's annual Christmas Childrens Party. The kids are excited that they now have a direct link to Santa's North Pole hotline :)

Dr. Chu was recently awarded the Ontario Dental Association 6 Year Service Award for his years serving Ottawa-area dentists in the ODA's General Council.
This August will mark the 3rd anniversary of Dr. Alisha Wali in our practice! How time flies. Dr. Wali graduated from McGill's distinguished dental programne followed by a year long residency at the State University of New York's Buffalo campus. We are all very happy to have her and love the smile she brings.
We have listened to our patients' requests and have purchased a ZOOM! 2 whitening system. Now you can have the same one hour in-office whitening as seen in ABC TV's "Extreme Makeover" show. Come by and ask us for details and a brochure to see if its right for you!
Also, Dr. Chu is now a certified provider of Invisalign invisible orthodontics! Dr. Chu was honoured (and surprised!) to have been voted as the 3rd "Best Dentist of Ottawa" by viewers of the A-Channel. The segment was aired on the April 20th evening news and on the noonhour broadcast the next day. Thanks to all of our patients who called and emailed the TV station with your votes, your confidence in our practice is much appreciated!
Dr. Chu recently had an article entitled "Kids and Their Teeth" published in the Japanese Parenting magazine, "Mamma". This was a short piece covering the most commonly asked questions he encounters every day at Southpointe Dental and in writing it, he hopes to address most parents' concerns and put some old urban legends to rest.
