In 2008 a small group of Barrhaven business owners banded together to start a registered charitable organization called BarrhavenRun.ca.
The purpose of BarrhavenRun.ca was to organize an annual charity running event in the community of Barrhaven. Roger Neilson House, a pediatric palliative care facility located on the grounds of CHEO, was selected as the charity of choice. The first annual Barrhaven Run for Roger Neilson House was held in June 2008. 100% of the event proceeds go to Roger Neilson House. Events include a 10k Run(timed), 5k Run(timed), 2.5k Family Run/Walk and a Tot Trot with Spartacat. The event has grown each year with competitive runners from around the country taking part. In the first 9 years $250,000 has been raised for Roger Neilson House.
Roger’s House is an eight bed home that provides comprehensive pediatric respite and palliative care programs, including elements of outreach, research, residential hospice, pain and symptom management, grief and bereavement counseling. Children and families that are admitted to this state-of-the-art facility are comforted by the welcoming home-away-from-home atmosphere where dedicated professionals and volunteers provide the very best in compassionate care and support. Roger’s House is about living life to the fullest.
